Definitions

Below we outline the key terms used to describe different types of hydrogen projects in the Nordic region.

Hydrogen valley

Nordic hydrogen valleys are projects that:

  1. Cover a specific geography in at least one Nordic country
  2. Cover at least two steps of the hydrogen value chain (production ➔ distribution ➔ use)
  3. Have a hydrogen production capacity exceeding 500 tpa
  4. Supply hydrogen to at least two different end-use sectors
  5. Have at least reached the feasibility phase (i.e., are working on a feasibility study)

Hydrogen hotspot

Hydrogen hotspots are projects that fulfill:

  1. Criterion 1 and
  2. At least 2 of criteria 2-5 in the “Nordic hydrogen valley” definition

Other hydrogen projects

Potentially interesting hydrogen projects that were identified in the mapping but failed to meet the definition of a hydrogen valley or a hydrogen hotspot
